Stroke: A Race Against Time
Stroke treatment is a race against time, involving a whole team of medical professionals working to quickly deliver clot-busting treatments like thrombectomy or TPA. Hospitals meticulously track treatment times, like "door-to-needle" time, and have made incredible progress – what once took an hour can now be done in under 30 minutes! However, many patients don't arrive in time for these treatments due to delays in recognizing stroke symptoms or waking up with a stroke. Despite advancements in imaging that can help identify patients who might still benefit, only around 10-12% of stroke patients currently receive these time-sensitive treatments.
