Emotional rollercoaster after concussion

After suffering a concussion, people notice that can’t control their emotions. They may experience uncontrollable crying or laughing or anger. This occurs because of the damage in the frontal lobes of the brain that exercises conscious control over our emotional expressions and mood. This can adversely affect their work life and relationships.

So can it be treated? Well, usually brain recovers emotional regulation within few months after concussion. Sometimes the recovery is incomplete and those people need additional help from a neurology or psychology providers. Behavioral health counseling to the patient and family can help a lot. There are also medications that can help.
